Project D-PBL on the go

Our newest approved project, D-PBL (Advancing project-based learning into the Digital Era), grounds on three dimensions: give sense to the technical skills by providing a real context to the learning path, give effective business-useful digital competencies, and integrate students in real multi-national teams.

The D-PBL project is scheduled for 24 months, aiming for four main results: an EAD Digital Competencies Survey; an EAD Training Toolkit/Course for Teachers; an architecture of digital D-PBL cells; and guidelines for digital problem-based teaching-learning.

More details will be available soon.

Project TechWhiz on the go

The TechWhiz (Sign Language Technical Dictionary) project aims to advance inclusive higher education by tearing down the barriers that deaf students face when coming across new concepts that have no corresponding sign language sign and require an explanation to promote a swift takeover of new knowledge in a specific study field.

TechWhiz will deliver an assistive technology tool to generate sign language explanations of concepts from a given study field. The explanations will be provided in textual form – sign language gloss – either by sign language experts, whenever feasible, or automatically using online dictionaries that offer querying services like Priberam for Portuguese, for instance. The sign language gloss is then reproduced by a 3D avatar in a specific sign language.

Our research unit will keep you updated on this new project!

Project VRNurse4Kids on the go

The VRNURSE4KIDS, a KA203 – Strategic Partnerships for Higher Education project, aims to prepare nursing students for future healthcare by using virtual reality in paediatric settings. The consortium involves four European higher education institutions – P.Porto, ODISEE, Hochschule für Gesundheit, Presovska Univerzita V Presove, figuring three nursing departments and GILT -, and a specialised company in the use of Virtual Reality (VR) as digital sedation – Oncomfort.

The cooperation on the level of education, clinical practice and applied research will contribute to innovation in Nursing education and practice. This project will contribute to trigger Nursing students for new technology in health care and to educate them as pioneers for implementing digital innovations in clinical practice to optimize care for children and to reduce pain and anxiety during Nursing procedures.

Further details will be available soon!

GamiLearn’21: GILT Researcher as Invited Speaker

A successful project: inclusiveness and more opportunities

After a successful implementation of Erasmus+ mobility in the field of higher education, reaching higher inclusiveness, the Higher Education Mobility Handbook for Higher Education Institutions appears as a complementary guide for a more digital, inclusive, and green Erasmus+ programme for the upcoming years.

Aiming for more accessible mobility opportunities, new features emerge as the blended mobility one, with a programme “designed to reach out to a larger and more diverse group of students and staff in higher education, for example by a greater use of information, communication and technology tools, as well as a combined use of physical mobility, online learning and cooperation”.

As such, the guide refers to Blended Academic International Mobility (BlendEd), as an example of the benefits for higher education institutions. This pedagogic model was created and is being developed by an international consortium, coordinated by GILT, since 2008.

The Higher Education Mobility Handbook for Higher Education Institutions, published by the Commission in May 2021, refers to BlendEd as a project that “provides comprehensive guidelines and a toolkit to help design blended traineeship programmes. The project partners have developed an innovative concept for blended mobility where students from different institutions work on real life problems suggested by companies. Participants meet the companies physically twice for one week during the course of the blended mobility and the rest of the work on the assignments is done remotely online”.

GILT is confident that this recognition and European initiative is just the beginning for a more digital and inclusive future.

ATHENA Visiting Researcher Programme

The University of Orléans and Le Studium Institute for Advanced Studies propose in the framework of the ATHENA European University a Visiting Researcher Programme in order to welcome experienced researchers from ATHENA partner universities in a host laboratory at the University of Orléans.

This programme can last between three to twelve consecutive months, making it an opportunity to integrate in an international faculty of fellows, to integrate in a laboratory of the university of Orléans, to organise an international event (conference or workshop) and to visit a region with a strong cultural heritage.

Applications with a link to ATHENA’s thematic focus (digital transformation) are particularly encouraged, but all others will be given equal consideration according to their scientific merit, except research directly linked to military applications.
