ATHENA European University Congress

On the 3rd-5th of October, the Polytechnic Institute of Porto is hosting the 5th transnational meeting of the ATHENA European University. The opening session took place this morning in the Superior Institute of Engineering of Porto and welcomed all ATHENA member universities.

The overall objective of the event is to discuss the results achieved so far in all areas of project’s activities. Another key topic will be the preparation for the next stage of cooperation within the ATHENA Alliance.

The ATHENA European University, coordinated by the Polytechnic Institute of Porto, is one of the 45 European universities co-funded by the European Union. ATHENA European University aims to respond to the current and future challenges of a transnational, inclusive, innovative education, permanently aligned with the needs of the global market, creating trends and providing relevant services to local communities, addressing social and environmental challenges as well as European research priorities.

Cooperação entre ISEP e Instituto Federal de Santa Catarina

No seguimento do que tem sido a cooperação entre o ISEP e o IFSC, o programa de intercâmbio PROPICIE, que esteve suspenso nos últimos dois anos, é agora retomado em setembro de 2022. No âmbito da 18º edição do programa, a estudante Emilly Oliveira foi selecionada para colaborar com o Instituto Politécnico do Porto, preenchendo uma das duas vagas contempladas para este programa de mobilidade internacional.

O programa consiste na participação da estudante num projeto de investigação, durante um período de 3 meses, de forma presencial.

CiC 5th Transnational Meeting & Training the Teacher Event, Leuven, Belgium

CiC’s 5th Transnational Meeting is taking place in Leuven, Belgium.
Starting today – the 6th of June -, the meeting will be followed by a set of sessions and workshops aiming at sharing the so far project results and at proving the participants the opportunity to interactively discuss their views and experiences on co-creation, pedagogical strategies using co-creation, and learning analytics.

Hosted by KU-Leuven, the “Training the Teacher” event is gathering Higher Education professionals from Porto (Portugal), Maribor (Slovenia), the United Kingdom, and Belgium. Ana Barata, a leading researcher at GILT, is presenting the pedagogical research and CiC’s proposed framework to introduce the discussion on co-created content.

Level Up! – Game Jam 2022

Os investigadores do GILT Carlos Vaz de Carvalho e Piedade Carvalho serão parte do júri do próximo Level Up! – Game Jam. O evento, organizado pelo Núcleo de Estudantes de Informática do ISEP (NEI), em colaboração com o GILT, ISEP e Departamento de Engenharia Informática (DEI), decorrerá nos próximos dias 3, 4 e 5 de junho.

A Game Jam permite aos interessados experienciar um verdadeiro hackaton para o desenvolvimento dum videojogo temático. O prazo são 48 horas e a participação pode ser de forma individual ou em equipa.

ATHENA SOFT & RESEARCH SKILLS ACADEMY reopens

The ATHENA Soft & Research Skills Academy lectures happen every Monday at 15H online.
Launched on the 21st of March 2022, the Academy sessions are coordinated by K. Petridis  (HMU, Greece), Ana Barata (leading researcher at GILT, representing P.Porto), and Pietro Oliva (Cusano, Italy), involving various guest speakers coming from ATHENA network.

Although open to all of the academic community, this joint initiative targets students attending any degree or year in Higher Education.

Examples of the already developed Biomaps about Spanish, Hungarian, and Portuguese authors have been presented and discussed during the fruitful work sessions.

ATHENA’s World Intellectual Property Day 2022

World Intellectual Property 2022 “recognizes the huge potential of young people to find new and better solutions that support the transition to a sustainable future”. The theme for this year is IP and Youth: Innovating for a Better Future, in line with ATHENAS’s general and WP6 activities, while celebrating youth-led innovation and creativity.

The event, taking place on the 21st of April, will be held in an online format and in English with live lectures/presentations. The purpose of the event is to promote ATHENA European University and highlight the importance of IP among our target audiences. World Intellectual Property Day 2022 “is an opportunity for young people to find out how IP rights can support their goals, help transform their ideas into reality, generate income, create jobs and make a positive impact on the world around them”.

ATHENA Research Board Meeting at Orléans University

The ATHENA European University had the final event of the seminar series regarding ‘The European University initiative, from European policy to practice on the ground: Solutions for smart integration’ at Orléans University.

The University of Orléans hosted a round table to discuss effective solutions for the main challenges that European University alliances face today in presence of major stakeholders. The round table took place in Orléans and streaming live online on Monday 28 February at 2 pm CET.

Orléans University also hosted the ATHENA Research Board Meeting. Paula Escudeiro was the IPP representative. The following aspects have been addressed:

  1. Presentations of the activities of the ATHENA partner Universities.
  2. Discussion on the integration/collaboration of research facilities of the partner Universities. Presentation of a proposed governance & collaboration scheme for discussion.
  3. Discussion on the thematic research priorities. A first draft is attached
  4. Decision was taken to start recording the research facilities/equipment for the ATHENA Research Integration/Collaboration
  5. The research integration/collaboration policy of ATHENA University is strongly connected and affected by the collaboration agreements between the ATHENA University partners for Doctoral studies.
  6. Decision was taken to have frequent meetings/communications (online) before the next meeting in person.

Boletim Informativo: Departamento de Engenharia Informática

Já se encontra disponível o Boletim Informativo do Departamento de Engenharia Informática, que avalia objetivos alcançados e atividades desenvolvidas.

Ao nível das oportunidades de investigação e parcerias internacionais para a investigação e desenvolvimento, foi destacada a Universidade Europeia ATHENA, coordenada pelo Professor do DEI Nuno Escudeiro. A Universidade visa criar um novo modelo de universidade, numa iniciativa lançada pela Comissão Europeia para fomentar a cooperação entre as Instituições de Ensino Superior na União Europeia, com o intuito de promover a internacionalização e a inclusão no ensino superior.
