As of Thursday, 18 October 2018, the Aliados Metro Station in Porto has a sign language bi-directional translator on floor -2. It is available in 6 different languages (Portuguese, Slovenian, Greek, German, Cyprian, and UK Sign Language).
The idea was developed in the context of I-ACE (an ERASMUS+ project of which GILT is the coordinator) in collaboration with the Porto City Hall. The Mayor Rui Moreira reaffirmed that “targeting special needs is one of the main tools of cohesion and inclusion, which are two main goals of the city of Porto”. Metro do Porto’s President, Jorge Delgado, also reaffirmed the Metro’s commitment to matters of mobility and special needs.
